The Week of May 25th: Website Updates

Thursday: Lindsey and I had a check-in meeting to discuss the country dashboards and what I would be doing to work on them. I spent the rest of the day completing website updates: completing manual data entry for country profiles on dashboards. Every indicator had to be typed in manually for every country on the website. I enjoyed doing this very much. It gave me baseline knowledge for the burden of HCV/HBV across the world. Here is a link to dashboards:

Area V: 5.3.1

Area VI: 6.5.6; 6.5.4

Friday: On Friday I spent about 6 hours continuing website updates. I made it to the countries in mid-T. There are so many places that I didn’t even realize were countries, this project gave me a better sense for the spread of hepatitis across different regions of the world.

The Week of June 1st: Website/Elimination Champions

Monday: To kickoff the summer, we had an in-person meeting at the Task Force in Atlanta to introduce ourselves in person and discuss the upcoming summer and expectations. This involved all four employees/interns from the Hepatitis Program. After the meeting I continued work on website updates.

Area VII: 7.4: 7.4.5;7.4.7

Area VI: 6.1: 6.1.4; 6.1.5

Tuesday: I finished the website updates I was assigned to: completing manual data entry for country profiles on dashboards. Lindsey and I also had a check-in to discuss the structure of the country dashboards to make sure they were easy to read and understand as a user. Here is a link to the website dashboards: https://www.globalhep.org/country-profiles

The Week of June 8th: Elimination Champions

Monday: On Monday I was given my big assignment for the week- helping with the Hepatitis Elimination Champions. Every year, the coalition accepts nominations for doctors or health workers that are influential in the fight for Hepatitis elimination globally. People are nominated from all over the world. This involves stakeholders associated with the task force and others interested in the work of the coalition.

Area VII:7.4: 7.4.1; 7.4.8

Tuesday: I continued to work on the elimination champion contest. This involved rounding up the nominations and putting them into a document to sort out the different important information for each nominee. This includes stuff like: organization affiliation, country of work, description of efforts, and a few other categories that are relevant to the nominee’s work in hepatitis. I was also involved in the coalition’s executive board meeting. This involves stakeholders both nationally and internationally. It was interesting to be involved with this meeting because there was lots of talk about COVID-19 and its impact on hepatitis efforts globally.

Area VII: 7.4: 7.4.1; 7.4.8

Wednesday: On Wednesday I continued to work on the elimination champion nominations. All the information needed to be cleaned and edited, and summarized on one large document to present to the judges. I also participated in the coalition’s technical advisory board meeting. This involved international stakeholders that are involved with the coalition and work in hepatitis related work.

Area VII: 7.4: 7.4.1; 7.4.8
Area II: 2.1: 2.1.4; 2.1.6

Thursday: I continued my work with the elimination champion nominations. Some of the necessary information regarding each nominee was missing so I had to do my own research into their efforts in hepatitis elimination work.

Area VII: 7.4: 7.4.1; 7.4.8

Friday: On Friday I finished the summary document with all the nominees for elimination champions. The winners will be announced on World Hepatitis Day in July. We also had a virtual goodbye meeting for another intern that was transitioning to another sector of the task force. I am getting to know my fellow intern and supervisor better each day and learning from both of them.

The Week of June of 15th: HEP Bali Video Bali

Monday: On Monday I was given the task of completing blog posts about videos regarding hepatitis in Bali. There are seven videos I watched and gathered information from for the blog posts. I also participated in our weekly team meeting on Monday, discussing matters for the week and talking about the upcoming expectations.

Area VII: 7.4: 7.4.7. 7.3: 7.3.2

Tuesday: On Tuesday I continued work on the Bali blog posts. This required watching all the videos and deciding what important information to include. The videos were done by the Task Force in Indonesia. The Task Force does international work to try to improve hepatitis advocacy efforts and system strengthening in countries across the world like Indonesia

Area VII: 7.4: 7.4.7. 7.3: 7.3.2

Wednesday: Wednesday began with a weekly team meeting between my direct supervisor, Lindsey, and the other intern in the Coalition for Hepatitis Elimination, our specific program. I also participated in the weekly CVE meeting which incorporates program heads for each program at the Task Force. The conversation was centered around company-wide COVID policy and current work being conducted by each program in the Task Force. There are 12 programs within, the Hepatitis Program being one of the newer ones.

Area I: 1.6: 1.6.4

Area II: 2.1: 2.1.1; 2.1.5

Thursday: On Thursday, Rochelle and I, the other intern exchanged our rough drafts for our blog posts to edit. She wrote about the Atlanta Hepatitis videos and I wrote about the Bali ones. We also had a “journal club” meeting within our team where our supervisor, Lindsey, discussed the Egypt Hepatitis Elimination Program, one of the best in the world.

Area VII: 7.4: 7.4.7 7.3: 7.3.2 7.5: 7.5.2

Friday: On Friday Rochelle and I exchanged our blog posts and gave feedback for each. We also had a weekly team meeting in the morning to discuss next week and our work for the upcoming week, with half of the team taking Monday and Tuesday of the proceeding week. As The Task Force is associated with Emory, we were advised to take the afternoon off for Juneteenth but I continued to do my own work and research into articles and research we had been advised to look at.
